The M13 Youth Project. Detached youth work with hard-to-reach young people in the inner-city, from an unconditional Christian basis.
The Barnabus Trust works with people in Manchester City Centre, providing a medical care and other services.
The Mustard Tree aims to meet the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the homeless in Manchester through soup-runs, provision of clothing and blankets, supporting those moving into accomodation by providing furniture, bedding and essential household goods and caring for asylum seekers.
The Boaz Trust An organisation set up to tackle the problems faced by destitute asylum seekers in Manchester, the Boaz Trust organises practical schemes such as finding somewhere for people to stay, general advice, information and befriending. for more information.
Pais ProjectThe PAIS Project began in North Manchester some years ago, training volunteer workers, each of whom have taken a year out to share their faith with young people, who work in teams going into local schools to take assemblies and lessons, and run lunch-time and after school clubs. Through these and many other activities they teach about what Christians believe in a lively and relevant way. It has now spread to other parts of the U.K. and into Europe.
Eden logoPart of "the Message", Edens have been set up in a number of inner-city areas of Greater Manchester including Wythenshawe, Salford, South Longsight and Harpurhey. Each project consists of a team of young Christians who move into the area to work alongside a local church in youth work and social action.
CARISMA is the follow-up to the Gangstop March of June 2002 is seeking to create viable alternatives to 'gangsta' culture for young people in and around the inner-city areas of Longsight and Moss Side in south Manchester. While not a Christian organisation as such, a number of local Christians are involved (including Paul) and it has aims which are very much in line with Jesus' manifesto in Luke 4 v18-19. Urban Presence is actively supporting this initiative.
Street Pastors is a new initiative which began in Manchester in the summer of 2004. It has been facilitated by CARISMA on behalf of local churches. Quite simply it gets church members out on the streets late at night meeting with and seeking to care for and help young people. Volunteers are trained and work in teams from 8pm at weekends.
Street Pastors began in London in Spring 2003 and has proved to be effective in engaging young people and in reducing crime. It is also operating in Birmingham and a number of other cities and towns.
