Street Pastors is a new initiative which began in Manchester in the summer of 2004. It has been facilitated by CARISMA on behalf of local churches. Quite simply it gets church members out on the streets late at night meeting with and seeking to care for and help young people. Volunteers are trained and work in teams from 8pm at weekends.Street Pastors began in London in Spring 2003 and has proved to be effective in engaging young people and in reducing crime. It is also operating in Birmingham and a number of other cities and towns. |
