RefUrb is an occasional event for anyone working or living in an urban area and involved in urban ministry, whether as a full-time worker or church leader, part-time, volunteer or 'just' a member of a local church. (Just? These are the most important people!)

It is so easy to get buried under the pressures of urban life, and due to the scarcity of Christians 'on the ground' in many areas, to feel isolated and discouraged. The concept of RefUrb is to provide an oasis away from those pressures for a while, where folk can relax, discover others with similar vision, concerns, problems and joys, and hopefully begin relationships that will develop beyond the meeting.
Our prayer for RefUrb is that those who come feel better about serving God in the inner city when they leave, than when they arrived. We usually have a guest speaker, and a buffet meal is included, courtesy of the Urban Presence trustees. For more details, please send us an email. |

Next RefUrb...
What's God got to do with it? November 13, 9.45-3.45pm. Nazarene Theological College. The very word theology is a turn-off for many activists. Too often, theology seems abstract and disconnected from the reality of day to day community work and a gap emerges between the activists and the reflectors to the detriment of both sides. But we believe that for social activists good theology can be like the roots of a healthy tree - it can resource, nourish and sustain effective community mission. Cost £10. Download a leaflet.

RefUrb March 2008
It's always good to check out where something is going from time to time, so this was a discussion on the future of RefUrb. We were joined by Andy Turner of CUF-X, with whom we have run a couple of joint one day events under the RefUrb name in the last year. Andy outlined how we could build on the mutual support and relational nature of RefUrb so far by becoming a platform for projects to identify issues, share insights, challenge perceptions and influence local / regional policy makers / funders. And as a part of a network of groups linked through CUF-X to be a part of a similar national process. What happens next depends on the feedback from those who attend RefUrb. Email us If you'd like to know more and tell us what you think. To find out more about CUF-X have a look at the website. |
